Supporting Business, Services, and Events in our Community”

I can hardly believe that we are well into September already….where did the summer go?

We have had a busy summer at the BIA with our very successful Antiquefest weekend, assisting the Chamber of Commerce with the Tubiefest Parade and the Renegade Bass Tournament. Our students worked together on a float and won fourth place in the parade. Bobby and Hayley were kept very busy with planting watering and weeding the gardens and hanging baskets as well as keeping the courtyard and the plaza looking good. The new picnic tables and benches have been well received the courtyard has become a great spot for coffee, lunch, or just place to take a break and enjoy the shade and the gardens.

We continue to work on the BIA website. We have finished entering the sign in data for our members and your space will be available for you to update by the end of the month. Lori Cook of Lori Cook Photography will be visiting all our businesses in order to take some new photos for the website. She will take interior shots as well if you are agreeable to this. The photos will be used to promote your business on our website.

The Season of Pumpkin People is upon us … You will notice the invasion of Pumpkin People taking place throughout South Dundas. We will be placing Pumpkin People in and around the Plaza’s over the next week or two.

Join in on the fun…we are having a window decorating contest for the businesses within the Plaza with Pumpkin People being the theme and prizes being awarded. This contest will be judged on Monday October 6th. We are partnering with the Chamber of Commerce on a community wide contest to encourage other businesses, homes, farms and schools to decorate as well and will these entries will be judged on Friday October 24th and prizes will be awarded. Interested parties can register for the Community Contest on either the Chamber of Commerce or the B.I.A. websites and for more info call 613-543-3982.

We will be promoting a Pumpkin Fever sidewalk sale on Saturday October 4th at the Plaza’s and hope you will participate in this sale. We will provide some giveaway’s and prizes to encourage shoppers to come out. If there is enough interest we could look at an annual evening sale along with the other festivities.

In partnership with the Chamber of Commerce we are going to have the first Pumpkin People Parade and Light up the Night on Saturday October 4th at 7pm. The parade will begin and end at the plaza with a short route through the town of Morrisburg. We are hoping to have floats from our businesses in the parade so please think about participating. Even a small float or some walkers will add to this first “night of the pumpkin people” parade. There will be an Oktoberfest BBQ in the Clock Tower Courtyard from 6pm to 9pm where Oktoberfest Sausages, and all the trimmings will be sold as well as coffee and hot chocolate.
